The Lead Software Engineer – AI & Intelligent Document Processing will drive the design and implementation of advanced AI solutions that enhance document understanding and agreement intelligence. This role requires hands-on expertise with DocuSign Insight, Flowable, and Logic Apps, as well as experience developing NLP extraction models, GATE rules, and user-defined machine learning models. The engineer will lead the development of scalable AI pipelines, integrating prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and continuous learning to support intelligent automation across the enterprise.
With strong programming skills in Python and deep knowledge of ML frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow, the engineer will build and deploy AI applications using cloud platforms such as Azure or GCP. Familiarity with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate), containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines is essential. This role also involves evaluating and integrating generative AI tools like LangChain, AutoGen, and Crew AI to deliver innovative, production-ready solutions that transform how agreements and documents are processed at scale.
In this role, you will:
Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large-scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines
Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs
Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors
Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals
Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
2+ years of experience with DocuSign Insight application to implement NLP extraction models, Discovery rules and User Defined Machine learning models
2+ years of Flowable applications and DocuSign Logic apps experience
1+ years of experience with Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLM) and also tools like Lang Chain/Auto Gen/Crew AI
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with GATE rules (General Architecture of Text Engineering) for text extraction
Knowledge of DocuSign Navigator, Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM)
Experience to decide whether to use pre-trained models, fine-tuned models or build custom models
Experience with fine tuning techniques like Quantization, LoRA, QLoRA
Experience in Prompt engineering strategies to optimize the quality and relevance of Gen AI outputs
Build and manage pipelines for model training, Prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and continuous learning
Programming skills in Python for AI development and ML frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow)
Good understanding of Transformer based models, attention mechanisms and tokenization
Knowledge of Vector databases like pinecone, Weaviate
Good to have experience in building, deploying and integrating AI Agents on Azure or GCP
Experience with Cloud platforms (Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP))
Experience in CI/CD pipelines
Proficient with Containerization tools (Docker) and Orchestration platform (Kubernetes)

Pay range for this role in CA is between $133,300 and $237,100
